Office of Research at the University Library - General Information

About

The Office of Research at the University Library exists to support evolving research needs on the Urbana-Champaign campus. In particular, we provide support for researchers as digital and computational tools and methods gain adoption and as scholarly norms change around open publications and data.

The units with the Office of Research include the Scholarly Commons, Research Data Service, and Scholarly Communication and Publishing. Collectively these units provide professionally managed support, including:

  • technology-enabled workspaces,
  • a wide range of instruction and workshops,
  • systems for publication and promotion of scholarship and data, and
  • methods and best practice consultations for researchers from any discipline on campus.


Each unit often works to coordinate and collaborate with partners within the Library and other research-focused units on campus.

The Office of Research also works internally to the Library to provide Library and Information Science (LIS) grant and research support in collaboration with the Library Business Office, the Research and Publication Committee, and the Information Sciences Librarian.

Mission

The Office of Research works in partnership with the Library and the campus to create, manage, use, and publish research information. It is a leader, both on campus and nationally, in instruction and in sharing best practices in scholarly communications and research. It builds community through research-focused programs and partnerships with scholars, colleges, departments, and other units on campus.
