He is Art Cullen, co-owner of <em> The Storm Lake Times <\/em> newspaper, published twice-weekly at Storm Lake, Iowa. His series during 2016 was honored \u201cfor editorials fueled by tenacious reporting, impressive expertise and engaging writing that successfully challenged powerful corporate agricultural interests in Iowa.\u201d You can learn more about it and read Cullen\u2019s 10 editorials <a href=\"http:\/\/www.pulitzer.org\/winners\/art-cullen\"> here <\/a> .<\/p>\n<p>The award prompted agricultural columnist Alan Guebert to write \u201cCourting courage and foresight.\u201d He shared thoughts about Cullen\u2019s prize-winning coverage of that contentious water controversy. You can read the column <a href=\"http:\/\/www.agrinews-pubs.com\/opinion\/guebert-courting-courage-and-foresight\/article_5321ca85-f0d0-52fa-87d6-111f80ab454e\"> here <\/a> .<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h3><strong> 15 emerging issues for global conservation and biological diversity <\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>An international team of expert \u201chorizon scanners\u201d recently published a list of \u201cemerging issues likely to affect global biological diversity, the environment, and conservation efforts in the future. \u201c It\u2019s a wide-ranging list, including issues as diverse as:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>blockchain technology<\/li>\n<li>use of robotics to combat invasive species<\/li>\n<li>use of bacteria and fungi to manage agricultural pests<\/li>\n<li>development of floating wind farms<\/li>\n<li>creation of fuel from bionic leaves and reverse photosynthesis<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>These and other emerging issues offer special opportunities for agricultural journalists, communicators, and others The article, \u201c2017 horizon scan of emerging issues&#8230;,\u201d was published in <em> Trends in Ecology and Evolution <\/em> .\u00a0 You can view it online <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cell.com\/trends\/ecology-evolution\/fulltext\/S0169-5347(16)30218-X\"> here <\/a> .<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h3><strong> 25 stories reflect a passion for videos about farmer innovations <\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>You may brighten your day by learning how many organizations are making, translating, sharing, and using videos about farmer innovations in eight countries of Africa and Asia. A 2016 report, \u201cA passion for video,\u201d features 25 stories from a Writeshop organized by the international NGO, Access Agriculture.<\/p>\n<p>Here are the titles of several stories written:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Ready, set, bureaucracy: kick-starting\u00a0 farmer training videos in Egypt<\/li>\n<li>My father taught me to open my eyes (Kenya)<\/li>\n<li>The video tricycle (Ghana)<\/li>\n<li>No laughing matter: videos blending humor, drama and machinery in Bangladesh<\/li>\n<li>Becoming a journalist farmer (Benin)<\/li>\n<li>Videos on the radio (Malawi)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>You can read these 25 stories <a href=\"https:\/\/publications.cta.int\/en\/publications\/publication\/1969\/\"> here <\/a> .<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h3><strong> New John L. Woods Collection <\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Hearty thanks to Dr. John L. Woods for contributing his globe-spanning collection of agricultural communications literature to ACDC. This recent contribution added 121 documents to the ACDC collection.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>They range across 40 years (from 1965-2005).<\/li>\n<li>They include communications related to agricultural development and environmental quality in Asia, Pacific Region, Africa, Middle East, Latin America, and the U.S.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>They consist of books, handbooks, guides, project reports, presentations, research reports, and other formats.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li>They feature strategic communications plans and management, campaign guides, training workshops, cinematography, field worker training and other topics of enduring value for practitioners, researchers, teachers, students, and others.<\/li>\n<li>General search engines do not identify most of these materials.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>During his career Dr. Woods served on the University of Illinois faculty, as director of Development Training and Communication Planning (DTCP) in the Asia and Pacific Programme of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), and as strategic communicator with Chemonics International Inc. Woods Collection\u201d in the Search box.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<h3><strong> Connecting cooking and feminism <\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>A 2015 article in the <em> Australian Journal of Environmental Education <\/em> picked up on that gap. Researchers noted that in popularized feminist discourse daily cooking has been implicitly defined as second-class status. By examining two local food activist groups, they observed a strong connection between feminism and cooking sustainable foods.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c\u2026it is time to conceptualise a new discourse on the kitchen for a feminist-environmental theory of cooking.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>You can read the abstract <a href=\"http:\/\/eric.ed.gov\/?id=EJ1076403\"> here <\/a> . Owen Roberts of the University of Guelph, Ontario, Canada, wrote it following an AAEA press trip to Cuba.
