If you will be visiting from out-of-town please contact us in advance (see contact information below).<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Turn in completed applications at the Main Library Circulation Desk. You will also need a <em>photo ID and proof of your current address<\/em>. <strong>The only\u00a0acceptable documents for these purposes are listed below. Expired documents will not\u00a0be accepted.<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Photo ID<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li>Valid Illinois driver&#8217;s license or ID\u00a0card<\/li>\n<li>Valid out-of-state driver&#8217;s license or ID\u00a0card<\/li>\n<li>Valid student\/staff ID\u00a0card from another college or university<\/li>\n<li>Valid\u00a0passport<\/li>\n<li>U.S. Military ID\u00a0card<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><strong>Proof of your current address<\/strong>\n<ul>\n<li>Current lease agreement<\/li>\n<li>Utility bill in applicant&#8217;s name from current or previous month only<\/li>\n<li>Credit card bill or bank statement from current or previous month only<\/li>\n<li>Benefit statement from Veterans Affairs from current or previous month only<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>Your <strong>courtesy card will be mailed<\/strong> to you; you will be able to borrow items once you have received the card. If your courtesy card is returned to our office as undeliverable to the address you provided on your application, you will not be able to reapply.<\/li>\n<li><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.library.illinois.edu\/borrowing\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/7\/2023\/04\/courtesy-card-application.pdf\">Courtesy card application<\/a><\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h3>Card Renewals<\/h3>\n<p>Bring your old courtesy card with you when you reapply. If necessary,\u00a0we can extend the expiration date so you may\u00a0use your old card until your new card arrives.\u00a0Borrowing history and previous conduct are\u00a0taken into consideration when reviewing\u00a0applications.<\/p>\n<h2>Cards for Urbana Campus Guests and Visitors who are Scholars<\/h2>\n<p>Guests and visitors who are scholars may apply for a Courtesy Card at the Main Library\u00a0Circulation Desk by presenting a <em>photo ID and a letter<\/em> from their Urbana campus\u00a0sponsoring academic department.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>This letter should be on departmental letterhead, signed by an authorized representative of the sponsoring department, and should state that:\n<ol>\n<li>The named person is a guest of that department until a specified date.<\/li>\n<li>The sponsoring department will assume financial responsibility for any library materials checked out by the card holder.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>A <a title=\"Sample Visiting Scholar Letter template\" href=\"https:\/\/www.library.illinois.edu\/borrowing\/visitor-letter\/\">sample letter template<\/a> is provided for your convenience to assist with this process.<\/p>\n<h2>Cards for BTAA Borrowers<\/h2>\n<p>Patrons who are affiliated with institutions in the Big Ten Academic Alliance (BTAA) may apply for a Courtesy Card at the Main Library Circulation Desk by following the directions at the <a href=\"https:\/\/guides.library.illinois.edu\/c.php?g=412798&amp;p=2813087\">Reciprocal Borrowing guide<\/a>.<\/p>\n<h2>Courtesy Card User\u00a0Responsibilities<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>Courtesy card users\u00a0are expected to update their card when their mailing or email address changes.<\/li>\n<li>Courtesy cards are valid for one year. Valid photo ID and proof of current address are required to renew your card. Lost cards require a new application.<\/li>\n<li>Your <a href=\"https:\/\/www.library.illinois.edu\/borrowing\/valid-library-identification-cards\/#account-number\">library account\u00a0number<\/a> is the 14 digit number printed below the barcode on your card. You will need this number to access the <a href=\"https:\/\/guides.library.illinois.edu\/librarycatalog\/create-account\">My Account<\/a>\u00a0function to check the status of your account in the Library Catalog.<\/li>\n<li>You can find materials through the <a href=\"https:\/\/i-share-uiu.primo.exlibrisgroup.com\/discovery\/search?vid=01CARLI_UIU:CARLI_UIU&amp;lang=en\">Library Catalog<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>Courtesy cards may be used at any of the libraries at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.<\/li>\n<li>Courtesy cards may be used for borrowing physical materials only. Courtesy cards do not provide access to electronic resources.<\/li>\n<li>Courtesy cards cannot be used to borrow library materials from other libraries in our statewide library consortium (I-Share) and are not valid on-site in other libraries in the consortium.<\/li>\n<li>Courtesy card users\u00a0are <em>not<\/em> eligible for Interlibrary Loan services.
