{"id":369,"date":"2022-07-12T18:54:16","date_gmt":"2022-07-12T18:54:16","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/wordpress.library.illinois.edu\/bhrsc\/?page_id=369"},"modified":"2026-03-23T15:36:43","modified_gmt":"2026-03-23T15:36:43","slug":"overview-of-the-annual-performance-evaluation-process","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/wordpress.library.illinois.edu\/bhrsc\/human-resources\/job-performance-fundamentals\/overview-of-the-annual-performance-evaluation-process\/","title":{"rendered":"Overview of the Annual Performance Evaluation Process"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Last updated: 03\/23\/2026<\/p>\n<p>Performance Evaluations are an important human resource process as it provides employees with feedback and clarity about their performance.\u00a0 For some classifications of employees, it provides metrics to help determine employee merit increases.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/mediaspace.illinois.edu\/media\/t\/1_9tm1i53a\">2025-2026 Performance Evaluation Form Training<\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left\"><div class=\"shortcode sh-px-3 sh-py-1.5 sh-bg-il_blue !sh-text-white sh-flex sh-justify-between sh-items-center\"> <span class=\"shortcode sh-grow sh-text-center sh-text-xl sh-font-medium sh-no-underline\">Faculty<\/span> <\/div><\/p>\n<p>At the University Library, the <span style=\"text-decoration: underline\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.library.illinois.edu\/staff\/committee\/faculty-review-committee\/\">Faculty Review Committee (FRC)<\/a><\/span> provides the first level of review for promotion and tenure or for promotion to a higher rank.\u00a0 The Committee is also responsible for monitoring visiting committee reports, and peer evaluation of Library Faculty for merit.\u00a0 On a yearly basis, library faculty submit their annual review report for peer review [see <span style=\"text-decoration: underline\"><a href=\"https:\/\/provost.illinois.edu\/policies\/provosts-communications\/communication-21-annual-faculty-review\/\">Provost Communication no. 21<\/a>]<\/span>.\u00a0 The committee evaluates the reports in three areas:\u00a0 Librarianship, Research, and Service.\u00a0 The Faculty\u2019s FRC weighted score is used as part of the merit program calculations.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left\"><div class=\"shortcode sh-px-3 sh-py-1.5 sh-bg-il_blue !sh-text-white sh-flex sh-justify-between sh-items-center\"> <span class=\"shortcode sh-grow sh-text-center sh-text-xl sh-font-medium sh-no-underline\">Academic Professionals and Civil Service<\/span> <\/div><\/p>\n<p>The Library\u2019s Academic Professionals and Civil Service employees are evaluated annually by their supervisor using evaluation forms provided by Library HR.\u00a0 Their scores are used as part of the salary program calculations.\u00a0 For Civil Service employees that are represented by a union, their merit amount is determined by the union contract.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/wordpress.library.illinois.edu\/bhrsc\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/88\/2025\/06\/Performance-Criteria-Matrix-6.2025.pdf\">Performance Criteria Matrix<\/a> (new 5\/2025)<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/wordpress.library.illinois.edu\/bhrsc\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/88\/2025\/06\/Library-Annual-Performance-Evaluation-Employee-Self-Reflection-Sheet.docx\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">Optional Employee Self Reflection Worksheet<\/span><\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/wordpress.library.illinois.edu\/bhrsc\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/88\/2025\/06\/Goal-Setting-Worksheet_updated-6.2025.docx\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">Optional Goal Setting Worksheet<\/span><\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/wordpress.library.illinois.edu\/bhrsc\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/88\/2025\/06\/Next-Steps-after-a-Needs-Improvement-Rating-Template_6.2025.docx\">Next Steps After a Needs Improvement Rating &#8211; Template<\/a> (new 5\/2025)<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/mediaspace.illinois.edu\/media\/t\/1_9tm1i53a\">Recording Link\u00a0<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p style=\"text-align: left\"><div class=\"shortcode sh-px-3 sh-py-1.5 sh-bg-il_blue !sh-text-white sh-flex sh-justify-between sh-items-center\"> <span class=\"shortcode sh-grow sh-text-center sh-text-xl sh-font-medium sh-no-underline\">Graduate Assistants<\/span> <\/div><\/p>\n<p>The Library\u2019s Graduate Assistants (GAs) are typically provided a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.library.illinois.edu\/staff\/policies\/ga_evaluation\/\"><span style=\"text-decoration: underline\">performance evaluation<\/span><\/a> during their term of appointment.\u00a0 The Report of GA Activities, a note documenting the dates when the Performance Evaluation and Exit Interview were conducted, and a brief evaluation of GA performance by the faculty supervisor should be transmitted to the Unit Head (when the faculty supervisor is not also the Unit Head), and to the Director of Library Human Resources.
