Thank you to everyone who participated in our recent pulse survey on training barriers that closed on July 23, 2026.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

We received\u202f97 responses, representing a 34% response rate\u202ffrom current Library faculty, civil service, and academic professionals.<\/span><\/p>\n

July Survey Question:\u00a0<\/span>\u00a0<\/span><\/h3>\n

Question 1: What prevents you from participating in\u00a0in-person<\/em>\u00a0training offered by the Library or campus? Select all that apply<\/strong><\/p>\n

The 97 respondents answered the following ways:<\/p>\n

    \n
  • Time commitment – 53.6% (52 selections)<\/li>\n
  • Training times don’t align with my schedule – 47.4% (46 selections)<\/li>\n
  • Lack of relevant topics – 24.7% (24 selections)<\/li>\n
  • Distance or travel concerns – 16.5% (16 selections)<\/li>\n
  • Not aware of training opportunities – 12.4% (12 selections)<\/li>\n
  • Other – 12.4% (12 selections)<\/li>\n
  • Supervisor permission – 5.2% (5 selections)<\/li>\n
  • I work fully remote – 3.1% (3 selections)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

    Twelve respondents selected “Other”, with 11 providing written comments. The most common themes reflected feeling overwhelmed by existing workload demands or, conversely, indicating that no barriers to participation were experienced. Additional feedback highlighted accessibility, scheduling, and coverage-related considerations.<\/p>\n

    The 97 respondents answered the following ways:<\/p>\n

    • Time commitment – 48.5% (47 selections)<\/li>\n
    • Training times don’t align with my schedule – 38.1% (37 selections)<\/li>\n
    • Lack of relevant topics – 27.8% (27 selections)<\/li>\n
    • Access to quiet workspace – 20.6% (20 selections)<\/li>\n
    • Difficulty learning in an online environment – 15.5% (15 selections)<\/li>\n
    • Not aware of training opportunities – 13.4% (13 selections)<\/li>\n
    • Other – 10.3% (10 selections)<\/li>\n
    • Supervisor permission – 4.1% (4 selections)<\/li>\n
    • Access to laptop or other necessary equipment – 2.1% (2 selections)<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

      Ten respondents selected “Other,” with nine providing written comments. The most common themes again reflected feeling overwhelmed by existing workload demands or, conversely, indicating that no barriers to participation were experienced. Additional feedback highlighted preferences related to online training formats and perceptions about supervisor support for pursuing training opportunities.<\/p>\n
