Explanation of Journal Abbreviation Databases
National Library of Medicine
- This PubMed database is searchable by the full journal title, by ISSN, or MEDLINE abbreviation.
This is the electronic equivalent of the
List of Journals Indexed in the Index Medicus (Q.016.61 L696) which is kept in the
reference section of the Veterinary Medicine Library. Since MEDLINE is the primary periodicals
database for the biomedical fields, this is probably the first place to check for clinical and
research veterinary journals.
- Covers and updates the list of journals indexed in Index Medicus available in the Veterinary
Medicine Library's reference section.
National Agriculture Library AGRICOLA
- Full journal information is provided, including the abbreviations used in the AGRICOLA database
(most current is for
2008).
The AGRICOLA journal list can be viewed online or downloaded in MS Access format. This list is not
accessible from AGRICOLA itself. The latest printed version available at the Vet-Med Library dates
from 1990.
N.B. CAB International does not provide a journal abbreviations list. If you are
dealing with a CAB citation, try searching the NAL index for agricultural or the NLM for clinical
titles.
ISI Journal Abbreviations Index
- This is simply a list of ISI abbreviations (used in the Web of Science, Journal Citation
Reports, and other ISI products) arranged alphabetically. The table includes the full journal title
and ISSN.
