Frequently Asked Questions

Self-checkout System

Vet Med Library now operates on a self-service basis.  Patrons may check out library materials to themselves using the designated computer terminal located in the library.  A valid iCard (university i.d.) is required in order to check out library materials.

Computers, Scanners & Printer

Vet Med Library has a public computer, color printer, flatbed scanner, and crane scanner.  Printing is 10 cents per page for b&w, 30 cents per page for color.  Flatbed scanner can be used to send PDF copies via email.  Crane scanner uses a Flash drive device.  Please note that the computers and printer are connected to the University Library network, NOT the college network.

Book Return

Library materials may be returned to the book drop located just inside the door of room 2281.  Please note that items are processed only on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday.  If you need items checked in immediately, please take them to another campus library.

Do you ever give away books?

Yes. These books have been donated to the Vet Med Library, but are given away if they are not needed by the library system. These items are on a cart located just inside the entrance labeled "Free."

How do I get access to the building when it is closed?

The regular hours for the building are 7am to 7pm, with access in the evening and weekends available through I-card entry. University personnel (faculty, staff, and students) requiring access to the Veterinary Medicine Library in the Veterinary Medicine Basic Sciences Building after regular hours should telephone the Dean's Office at 333-2760 to arrange for validation of their I-card for the times required.

I-cards

If you have problems with or have lost your I-card, contact the ID center on the 2nd level of the Illini Union Bookstore. Their phone number is 244-0135.

How do I get to the Small Animal Clinic or Large Animal Clinic?

The Small Animal Clinic and the Large Animal Clinic are located south of the Basic Science Building. From the library, go left to the end of the hallway and out the doors. The SAC is the building straight ahead; the LAC is along the path to the right. See Map of College of Veterinary Medicine.

Parking

Metered parking is available in several places in front of the Basic Sciences Building.  All other spaces are permit only.
