How Do I request books or articles from other libraries?
How to find items not available at UIUC
If you are unable to find items available via the
online catalog or they are checked out or
missing, you can request to borrow them from another library.
This service is free to UIUC patrons.
Request a magazine, journal, or newspaper article
To request a copy of an article:
- From the
University Library page
select
Borrowing/ILL from the
Services column on the left.
- Click the link to
Login to my ILLiad
Account; enter your netID and password.
- Click
Request a Photocopy and follow the instructions.
- You will receive an e-mail with a link to the article when it is available. The length of
time to receive articles varies and may range from a few days to 2-3 weeks.
Request a book or other item
To request a copy of a book from another I-Share library:
- Search the
I-Share catalog . (This is a shared catalog of more than 80 academic
libraries in Illinois.)
- Identify the appropriate item and follow the instructions to
Request an Item.
- You will receive and e-mail when the items arrives. Books requested through I-Share
arrive within 1 to 2 weeks.
To request a book NOT available in I-Share:
- From the
University Library home page
select
Borrowing/ILL from the
Services column on the left.
- Click the link to
Login to my ILLiad
Account; enter your netID and password.
- Click
Request a Book and follow the instructions.
- You will receive an e-mail when the item arrives. Book requested through ILLiad
generally arrive in 1-3 weeks.
