Hosted/Attended/Participated in numerous successful special events/programs/trainings: Printers Row in Chicago; NYC Grolier Club English in Print Exhibit; Retired Librarians Tea at UC; Library Friends Board Meeting; Edible Book Contest at the YMCA; Digital newspaper kickoff celebrations for the DI and the Urbana Courier; Fisher Forum; Mortenson Lecture; Dad’s Association Annual Meeting; Commencement Open House for Bronze Tablet Scholars; Senior Architect Student RBSC Awards Program; Audrey Niffeneggar presentation and book signing; Hosted UIF Regional Director Staff training session; Faculty/Staff Giving Campaign; Boot Camp Activities; American Music Month; co-hosted with Champaign Public Library the Meet the Hero Community Reading Program; Chancellor’s Chicago luncheon; hosted gift announcement donor at Annual Meeting; hosted Homecoming Comeback Guest, Barry Sabath; Colonnade Club/DIA joint event; presented advancement message to numerous Division Meetings, Danville Noon Kiwanis, Dean’s Student Library Advisory Group; Advancement 101 and 102 classes for faculty/staff; #44 Society; Black Alumni Weekend; Fund Raising School in IN; DORAL in San Diego, CA; ALA; CAC breakfasts and various trainings at UIF; hosted numerous Library Friends visitors for tours of the Oak Street facility and campus; and UIF/UIUC events in the following cities: Naples, FL; Tucson and Phoenix, AZ; Macomb, IL; St. Louis, MO; Wheaton, IL; and Chicago, IL.
Committees the Advancement Team serves on: Various search committees for the Library, UIF and campus positions; Campus Council on Alumni Relations; Office of the VCIA Scholarship Matching Program Committee; Annual Fund Roundtable; Know Your University Committee-YMCA; Library Social Events Committee; President’s Award Program; Avery Brundage Scholarship Committee.
Joined the Colonnades Club (priority seating at Memorial Stadium) and hosted numerous donors at each home football game, plus this gives us access to the other 1200 guests in this seating area.
Raised money for specific purposes, ie: Audubon Exhibit, Big Ten Network Programming Archival project, Rare Book and Manuscript Library special needs.
Goals for 2009~~
-Martin O’Donnell’s visit goal is 150 this year; PM goal 25, minimum 2 endowed funds, minimum one PC member, minimum 2 speaking engagements for AA, numerous targeted key donors the Advancement office wants O’Donnell to see this year.
-Heather Murphy is looking at giving Friendscript a face lift, continuing to update and revise the Friends website, assist and advise with updating letterhead, thank you note cards and other office needs, build relationships to closely work with the Office of Public Affairs and the local media to promote the Library on and off campus, getting all publications back on a set schedule and offering them online when appropriate, updating the very popular Library’s Looking For website; assist faculty with press releases and other various needs as appropriate.
-Jason Quackenbush will be working to increase direct mail donors and gifts by 5%; establish a more efficient donor acknowledgement process; establish new leadership giving levels that are aligned with the Chancellor’s Circle and Presidents Council; increase Web/email and telemarketing donors and gifts by 10%; work with UIF/Regional Directors to coordinate their travel schedules with Library donors in their regions.
-Vicki Sparks and Pam Ward (Support Staff) are responsible for assisting the Annual Fund Director with re-organizing the stewardship letters, getting a much better grasp of the Banner Accounts and how to answer questions from our dean and faculty regarding the balances and spending amounts; de-cluttering and organizing the office; working with the Publication/Public Affairs Director to update stationery and all office supplies; learning how to set up travel arrangements, reimbursements, and handle donor call backs; developing solid relationships with the Library Business Office and each individual library unit.
Our more seasoned professional’s goals are as follows:
-Joyce Wright spearheads the Library’s Faculty Staff Giving Campaign; the retired Librarian’s Tea; organizing an advancement class for our faculty/staff on gifts in kind; assists with various library events, is cultivating librarians by one on one visits toward a giving attitude; seeking funding for the ProQuest databases; does various research projects as needed.
-Roxanne Frey is very active in training the new staff due to her years at the Library Advancement Office and her extensive knowledge as a trained librarian; finalizing several gifts in kind; planning a strategy for donor visits in the Chicago-land area; will work with UIF Chicago-based RD on events in that region of which there are many, and coordinate donor visits; plans to put proposals in front of 25 donors this year, and will add 10 to her prospect management portfolio.
-Vicki Trimble will be targeting major donors across the country this year in an attempt to follow up, make a proposal, or offer stewardship for the gift. Trimble is still cleaning up PM assignments with the new UIF/RD of Trimble’s former region and visits those assigned to her from her predecessor’s portfolio; continued training/overseeing of duties directed to new staff is on going.
