Who Are We:

Starting this month, we are going to feature one person who is involved with IT projects in the Library. This will help everyone in the Library get to know our staff a little better. Welcome to Yuping Tseng who works as a Research Programmer in the Digital Imaging & Media Technology Initiative! Yuping, whose office is in room 466 of Grainger Engineering Library, has been with DIMTI since February 2003. He works half-time supporting DIMTI programs and systems and half-time on various digital projects around the Library.

Yuping says, "I started my job as a research programmer with DIMTI in February. However, I'm not new to University of Illinois or even to the University Library at all. I was a research assistant with DLI project in Grainger Engineering Library (http://dli.grainger.uiuc.edu) ever since I came to the University in 1999. After I received my MS degree in computer science, I worked as a research programmer with OAI Metadata Harvesting project in Grainger (http://oai.grainger.uiuc.edu) as well. So, totally I've been here in Champaign for almost four years. Right now, I'm involved with several digital library projects. My main responsibility is to develop and set up tools or programs that make the Library collection available or easier to access on the internet.

I'm probably not qualified as a computer geek, but I do enjoy writing programs, especially those related to the WWW or internet. Besides indulging myself in the computer world, I also like to travel around. Sometimes I'd just drive for hours to a place I've read about from some book. So far, I've been to more than 40 states of the U.S. I hope I can complete the U.S. map as soon as possible before I take the next step to collect the world map."
