Buzzword

LDAP -- (pronounced ELL-dap), noun. Acronym for Lightweight Directory Access Protocol; A standard* form of presenting or querying an electronic directory of persons, objects, etc.
Because LDAP is open, flexible, free, and simpler than most other directory protocols, it has become the most common way of providing electronic phone books and similar lookup services. Numerous software applications now provide support for some features of LDAP.
