Fed up with their publisher's pricing policies, the editorial board of Elsevier's
Journal of Algorithms resigned in protest in January 2004 and went on to found a new
competing journal,
ACM Transactions on Algorithms, in partnership with the Association for Computing
Machinery.
Given the efficiencies and cost reductions that online publishing have introduced,
launching a new non-profit electronic journal is another possibility. SPARC, the
