In order to address the needs of faculty and graduate students whose research requires that they access and manipulate commercially available data sets and to better prepare its own personnel to serve new roles on campus, the University Library is soliciting applications from faculty and graduate students who need to purchase numeric or spatial data for their research. The University Library will make the data purchased or licensed as part of this program available for general use by the campus community. Award amounts will vary depending upon need and the availability of funding from other sources such as departmental, college, or other grant funds. However, the availability of such funding is not conditional for receipt of funding from the Library.
Awards will be targeted toward meeting smaller needs (in the $5,000 range). However, the amount available to be awarded for individual proposals will depend upon the total number and suitability of applications received.
Awards will be made on a competitive basis after the beginning of the academic year.
Application Deadline: September 16, 2011
Announcement of Awards: November 1, 2011
