Services Provided

Research and Information Services (RIS) offers the following services:

Assistance with identifying, locating, and using print, digital and other library resources at the Information Desk in 200 Library or through Ask a Librarian .  This assistance includes:

Instruction related to effective research practices, information management, and new technologies including open and virtual workshops

Access to experts in digital content creation and analysis; scholarly communication; geospatial, textual, and numeric data analysis; and innovative teaching and learning methods through the Scholarly Commons.

Assistance in locating a wide variety of Government Information, including Illinois, Federal, and United Nations Documents:

As a Federal Depository Library, Government Information Services is committed to free public access to government information, as mandated by 44 U.S.C. §1911.   Government Information Services' collections and services are available to the public as well as to persons affiliated with the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Service for government information in electronic formats at the University of Illinois is governed by the federal government's Depository Library Public Service Guidelines for Government Information in Electronic Formats (1998) and by the Library's Electronic Information Policy for Library Users (1997), as well as by all applicable laws and U of I policies. Where University of Illinois policies conflict with the Depository Library Public Service Guidelines, the Public Service Guidelines shall be considered in accordance with Government Information Services' obligations as a Federal Depository Library.
