This volume contains William Askwith's (1614-1695) detailed notes on sermons he attended between December 1633 and May 1634. Each entry begins with a heading consisting of the date, the preacher's surname, and the relevant Bible verses. Some of Askwith's notes relate to sermons by Ralph Brownrigg, later Bishop of Exeter.

Sir William Askwith (1614-1695) was a Member of Parliament and represented the bourough of Thirsk, Yorkshire, from 1645-1648 and in 1681. Askwith's surname also appears as Ayscough.
