Scope and Contents of the Materials

This volume contains approximately 75 pages of notes about the works of John Milton, written primarily in 1767 and 1768. The anonymous author wrote extensive notes on works such as "Paradise Regained" (1671), "Samson Agonistes" (1671), "Lycidas" (1637), "Comus" (1634), and a number of Milton's sonnets, as well as briefer analyses of numerous other works. The notes for "On the Morning of Christ's Nativity" (also referred to as "Hymn on Christmas Day") (1629) are dated "Christmas Day 1763."

The volume has the bookplate of John Plumptre.
