Layout: Written in two columns, frame-ruled in ink, with headings and dates for each numbered entry.

Script: 19th century English document hand.

Binding: 3 gatherings are loose, each bound with a different cord: gathering 1 (nos. 1-11) is bound with a brown cord, gathering 2 (nos. 12-17) with a white cord, gathering 3 (nos. 18-21) with a gold cord.

Origin: Written by Charles Palmer, Midshipman, at Winter Harbour, New Georgia. Produced and circulated in Mss. by members of the Parry Expedition while they were at their winter quarters in the Arctic, and published, in printed form, after the expedition's return to London under the title: North Georgia gazette, and winter chronicle. Winter Harbour is on what is now called Melville Island in the Northwest Territories.
