Collection Historical Note

Saʿdī (circa 1200-1291) was a Persian author. Born Abu Mohammad Mosarref-al-Din Mosleh, he was a native of Shiraz, Persia (now Iran). Saʿdī studied in Baghdad as a young man and traveled widely throughout the present-day Middle East between 1226 and 1256. He published numerous works throughout his lifetime, most notably Bustan (1257) and Gulistan (1258), and is considered by many to be "one of the greatest figures in Persian literature."
