Collection Historical Note

Abraham Clifford was a proctor of Pembroke College, Cambridge, in the mid-17th century. After his ejection from the Church of England in 1662 or 1663, he studied medicine at Leyden. He later had a practice in London, where he died in 1675.

The text of this manuscript is apparently identical to Methodus Evangelica; or, the Gospel Method of Gods saving Sinners by Jesus Christ: Practically Explained in XII Propositions (London: Printed by J. M. for Brabazon Aylmer, 1676). According to an introduction by Thomas Manton and Richard Baxter, the text is a revised version of a sermon that Clifford delivered during a visit to Gloucestershire.
