How to use Primo

You can search very easily in Primo. Just type one or more words or phrases in the search box and click the Search button. 
NOTE: In general, Primo assumes that you are searching for all the words you type unless OR or NOT are specified between the words and phrases.


 

Search for Specific Articles or Books

To find a specific article:

  1. Enter the title into the search box.  Use quotation marks " " to indicate it is a phrase.
  2. Select Articles and More from the drop down menu.
  3. Click Search.

To find a specific book:

  1. Enter the title into the search box.  Use quotation marks " " to indicate it is a phrase.
  2. Select UIUC Library Catalog from the drop down menu.
  3. Click Search.

Search for a Journal or Database Title

  1. Enter the name of a journal or database in the search box.
  2. Select Online Journals & Databases.
  3. Click Search.

Search Using Wildcard Characters

Select Your Search Scope

 The search scope defines where Primo should perform your search.  Options within Primo include:

Search for UIUC Created Content

UIUC Created Content Includes Ideals and Content DM material.

NOTE: Full inclusion of UIUC Createc Content is still underway.

  1. Enter a subject or title into the search box.
  2. Select UIUC Created Content from the drop down menu.
  3. Click Search.

Sign in and use My Account

Signing into My Account allows you to do the following:

To Sign In:

  1. Enter your Last Name.
  2. Enter your Library Borrower ID.  This is located in the bottom right section of your I-Card.
  3. Click Login.

Using My Account:

My Account enables you to view checked out items, pending requests, fines and fees. You may also perform library services, such as
renewing items or canceling requests and define your personal Primo settings.

Request Books

To request a book through Primo:

  1. Search for the specific book title.
  2. Click on the Request link.  (Example 1)
  3. Log in to your account if you have not already done so.
  4. Select a location to pick up your book. (Example 2)

Use the e-Shelf

Add items of interest to you by placing them on your e-Shelf.  Your e-Shelf is located in the upper right corner of the Primo screen.

NOTE: You must log-in to your account to use and manage your e-Shelf.
