Analog: media carried on non-digital formats (VHS videotape, vinyl record, et al.)
Asset: a media object held by a department
Audio: sound recordings on either analog or optical disk digital formats, including both commercial and unique/unpublished content
Born-digital: media created as digital files, and stored on hard drives or servers (.WAV file, .MOV file, et al.)
Film: moving image film, either on an acetate, polyester, or nitrate base
Media Carrier: the physical entity that stores the moving images or sound (or both) and allows for them to be played back
Optical Disk Digital: media that is stored on a physical format and read by optical means (CD, DVD, et al.)
Video: both analog and digital video tape, either open reel or enclosed in a cassette
