Vise Gluing

Procedure:

Vise Gluing

We use a vise to hold a large section of papers together while gluing them into a cohesive unit. In the example shown below, a substantial section of a small book has come loose from the spine.

Two factors contribute to our decision to attempt to glue the loose pages back into the spine: the spine cloth is intact and the volume is a slim one. (Generally, this kind of problem entails a rebinding process.)

Holding the loose pages together as a unit, we place them into the vise with just the edges protruding at the top. Over several hours, successive coats of glue are painted over these compressed pages.
