Handling and Transferring Materials: Extraneous Matter

Handling and Transferring Materials:

Extraneous Matter

On their travels throughout the library, materials often collect a variety of paperwork, including: search streamers, "gift" slips, computer printouts, EBO cards, catalog cards, order cards, special plates, routing streamers, instructional streamers, work tickets, and staples and paper clips holding them all together.

This paperwork and accompanying fasteners can tear or crease paper and bulge out bindings at the gutter side.

Note the paperwork on the inside of the pamphlet, below.

The bulk of it causes the front page to bulge out next to the staples on the left side, nearly breaking through the old, soft paper.

Each department can remove the instructions it uses and send on only what subsequent departments will need.
