#1: We measure the width and length of the book to the nearest 16th inch.
#2: Holding a piece of binder board next to the spine allows the spine curve to be calculated.
#3: The two pre-sized boards are cut down to size.
#4: The perforated boards are fit and folded around the book.
#5: We make sure the two boards fold snugly around the book and each other.
#6: Double-sided tape affixes the two boards together.
#7: The tape backing is peeled off and the two boards are fastened together at their bottoms.
#8: Four strips of linen tape are cut to the length and width of the box edges; some extra tape is allowed for shrinkage.
#9: The tape will be glued over the folds of the box for reinforcement against tearing.
#10: After the glue dries, excess tape is trimmed off.
#11: A "Condition Label" is glued to an inside cover.
#12: Attaching Velcro dots will hold the flaps together.
#13: These completed boxes are ready to be shelved.
#14: We make boxes for a variety of materials in addition to fragile books: stacks of unbound papers; groups of loose items, such as, maps; kits; and books or pamphlets with multi-media components.
