Procedures and Treatments Used for Book Repair and Pamphlet Binding

Boards/Paper/Cloth

Items

  • large sheets of paper in varying textures, thickness for end sheets and fly sheets
  • Tyvek (synthetic) paper: available in strips and sheets to make pockets, flaps, wraps and to protect paper
  • lightweight folder stock: 7 point folder stock for spine inlays and map pockets pre-made pockets of various sizes and types
  • folder stock: 10 to 20 point folder stock to make lightweight folders, enclosures and phase boxes
  • bristol, board, binder’s board, stock board: to make pamphlet covers and boxes
  • blue/gray board: to make pamphlet covers
  • corrugated board: in varying thickness, to make boxes
  • binder’s board/Davey Board: for new book covers
  • super cloth: closely woven white, starch-filled cloth to reinforce book spines
  • bookcloth: to cover the case of books
  • cheesecloth: to soak up excess water and adhesives
  • wax paper: to prevent adhesive from sticking to adjacent surfaces
  • blotting paper: to dry and flatten paper
