New library services and locations will be in place for the Social Sciences, Health and Education this fall. The Applied Health Sciences Library and the Education and Social Science Library will officially close to the public at the end of Summer Session 2 on August 4, 2012. These libraries will merge and reopen as part of the Social Sciences, Health, and Education Library (SSHEL). This new library will occupy the first floor of the east side of the Main Library building. New facilities will be open by Fall 2012, yet undergoing renovation on the south side of SSHEL; the north side will continue to be renovated during the 2012-2013 academic year. The new library will provide services to the following areas:
SSHEL will begin the semester with open hours from Monday – Thursday, 8:30 am – 11:00 pm; Friday 8:30 am - 6:00 pm; Saturday 11:00 am - 5:00 pm; and Sunday, 1:00 pm – 11:00 pm. Work will continue on the remaining SSHEL space on the northeast side of the first floor (in the former Education and Social Science Library). This fall, patrons may contact SSHEL by phone (217-333-2305) and access the new website at www.library.illinois.edu/sshel/.
The new library will enhance opportunities for collaboration and coordination among the Library’s social science, health and education specialists and will provide a unified service point and Web presence for Library users whose needs span multiple disciplines. Individual and group study spaces, collections, and technology will be featured in the new library.
