Jan 10, 2011
Since 2008, the University Library has provided 24-hour access five days a week during the academic year to the Undergraduate Library and the Grainger Engineering Library Information Center thanks to funds provided by the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign's Student Library/IT Fee. Beginning Spring 2011, and in response to the Illinois Student Senate's December 2010 Resolution on Library Security, the University Library will limit access to its facilities during the hours of 12:00 a.m. - 6:00 a.m. to Urbana campus students, staff, and faculty.
Beginning on January 18, 2011, Library users will be required to present a valid i-Card for entry into the Undergraduate Library (12:00 a.m. - 6:00 a.m.), the Grainger Engineering Library Information Center (12:00 a.m. - 6:00 a.m.), and the Funk-ACES Library (12:00 a.m. - 3:00 a.m.). Any Library users who are not members of the Urbana campus community will be asked to leave the Library at 12:00 a.m.
As an additional safety measure, the lower level of the Undergraduate Library will be closed during the hours of 12:00 a.m. – 6:00 a.m. The Undergraduate Library will continue to provide full Library services during these hours, including access to individual and group study spaces, media viewing spaces, public computing, and print and digital collections. Materials housed on the lower level of the Undergraduate Library will remain available for retrieval upon request. For more information on these changes, please visit www.library.illinois.edu/ugl/about/latenight.html on the Undergraduate Library's website.
The University Library is committed to providing a secure environment for its users, and to contributing to a safe environment for teaching, learning, and research on campus. The University Library also remains committed to providing public access to its resources and facilities, and will continue to remain open to the public during all other hours of operation.
If you have any questions about this change in policy, please contact Scott Walter, Associate University Librarian for Services and Associate Dean of Libraries.
