Placing Print Materials on E-Reserve

When we need your materials

If you would like your reading materials to be online by the beginning of classes, we will need the materials described below by two weeks prior to the first day of classes. Materials submitted after this date will not be available when classes begin.

Instructions

Deliver to the Music and Performing Arts Library Circ desk in an envelope marked "EReserves"

Contact any of the following with questions: the Reserves staff (IPM) at  ipm@library.uiuc.edu; or Music and Performing Arts Library contact Gail Schmall (gschmall@uiuc.edu, tel. 244-4069).

More detailed instructions may be found here: http://www.library.uiuc.edu/ipm/placingonreserve.html

How do my students access the e-reserve readings online?

You and your students may access e-reserves via the Online Library Catalog or directly. In both cases the material is accessed by course and instructor. If accessed directly, the list retrieved does not include any print materials such as full-length books you may have also placed on reserve.

E-reserves can be printed either inside or outside of the library. If printed within the UIUC library sytem, printing may be charged directly (online) to your student or faculty account, or payments may be made at the Undergraduate Library desk. For a complete explanation of how to access e-reserve materials, please see our Online Tutorial.

Copyright Policies

The Undergraduate Library photocopy policy is based on the National Copyright Law that became effective January 1, 1978. The law is designed to allow reasonable use of copyrighted materials. However, law does prohibit copying as a substitute for the purchase of books, periodicals, or reprints.

Any photocopies placed on reserve should comply with the Agreement on Guidelines for Classroom Copying in Not-for-Profit Educational Institutions and must meet the standards of educational fair use as outlined in Section 107 of the copyright law. Any instructor placing photocopied materials on reserve to supplement classroom instruction is responsible for contacting the copyright owner for those items requiring copyright permission, whether the photocopied materials are provided by the instructor or the teaching department. If it is determined that the material being placed on reserve does not comply with the library’s copyright policies, that material will be taken off reserve and the instructor notified.

The electronic reserves copyright policy is available online at http://www.library.uiuc.edu/administration/services/policies/electro_reserve.html.

We look forward to working with you in the coming semester. You can contact the Music and Performing Arts Library Reserves Desk at 244-4069 or the Head of the Music and Performing Arts Library, John Wagstaff, at 244-4070 or wagstaff@uiuc.edu. You can also contact the Undergraduate Library between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, if you have any questions (333-2667).
