Library Facilties

Wired and Wireless Access

Both wired and wireless network access is currently available in the Mathematics Library Reading Room. Please ask at the circulation desk if you have any questions.

Public Access Computers

The Mathematics Library has 9 public-access PCs connected to the campus network. Use of these computers for library research takes precedent. Email is allowed only from the 5 terminals in the reading room (Map B-9). These computers should not be used for generic Web browsing or personal entertainment.

Printing

The Mathematics Library has a black and white printer for your convenience and the cost is 10 cents per sheet. (Color printing is available at the Undergraduate Library and Grainger Engineering Library.) All public access computers have the ability to print. To print a document, choose File > Print, or if you are still on the desktop (not yet in the document), click on the LibPrint Login icon (located in upper right of desktop). A new window will pop up and you can choose to login with your NetID and password to have the charges billed to your University account. Alternatively, you may send the print job to the Undergraduate Library to pay in cash or print in color , or you may sign up for a prepaid account. You can even connect wirelessly to the printers. If you have more questions about printing please visit the Library Printing FAQ.

Photocopying

Two public coin/card-operated photocopiers are available for patron use in the circulation area (Map A-12). Photocopies are 15 cents per page if you pay in cash and 12 cents per page if you use an I-Card or photocopy card. For information on how to use your I-Card to make photocopies or add value to your copy card, please visit the Library FAQ on the Main Library's Web site.

Scanning

A scanner is available in the reading room (Map B-10). It is primarily for the use of those with disabilities. Others may use it when it is not needed by a student or other library user with a disability. To use the scanner:

  • Place the document you wish to scan in the scanner.
  • On the desktop of the computer next to the scanner, open the applications folder (it may already be open).
  • Open the "Scan & Edit Images" icon at the bottom of the screen.
  • Open Adobe Acrobat X
  • Click on "Create" in the upper left hand corner, and select "PDF from Scanner," then choose the color of the document
  • When the page is finished scanning you will have to choose whether the scan is complete or whether you want to scan more pages (you will not see any of the scanned images until you indicate that the scan is complete). If you choose to scan more pages, have a new page in the scanner before hitting "OK," as the machine will begin scanning immediately.

To troubleshoot problems with the scanner, please consult the help contact information affixed to the scanner.
