Summer 2012 Associates Program

Tools for the 21st Century Librarian: May 26 - June 19, 2012

The Mortenson Center Associates Program continues in Summer 2012 with the theme, Tools for the 21st Century Librarian. The Associates Program will offer library and information science professionals from outside the United States an opportunity to explore and engage with current issues and trends in the field. Tools for the 21st Century Librarian will engage participants in learning about novel and innovative practices and services in areas such as:

-Leadership, Communication and Management

-Digital and Print Collections

-Technical Services and information Technology

-Fundraising, Marketing and Advocacy

-Professional Networking

Applications for the Summer 2011 Associates program were due December 15, 2011. Check back soon for information about our 2013 program.

2012 Program Highlights

Seminars and workshops which provide an overview of current trends in the field. Library experts will be invited to share their perspectives, offer expertise, and foster conversations on the themes of communication and leadership.
Tours to a variety of libraries, including academic, public, and school libraries. We may also visit the American Library association headquarters in Chicago, Illinois, and other sites of interest.
Small group projects will allow Mortenson Associates to engage in program content and explore topics with greater depth.
Networking with dynamic group of international colleagues.
Each participant will receive a Certificate of Program Participation upon completion.
Scheduling to allow participants to attend the Annual Meeting of the American Library Association (ALA), if they wish. (Arrangements and registration for the conference must be made separately and are not included in program costs.)

Funding for Program Participation

Summer 2012 Associates Program Cost Estimate

Applicants must secure adequate funding to support a stay at the Mortenson Center in order to be accepted into the program. Applicants must provide official confirmation of all funding sources. Acceptance into the program also depends on whether the applicant meets the selection criteria, and the availability of space in the program.

Program Size

Although we receive many requests from professionals to participate in Mortenson Center programs, we accept no more than 12-15 participants at one time.

Program Dates

Participants should plan to arrive in Champaign, Illinois, on May 24 or 25, 2012. Program activities will begin on May 26, 2012.

The last day of program activities will be June 19, 2012. Participants should plan to depart on June 20, 2012.
