Map Sets at the Map and Geography Library

Topographic maps of foreign countries, in addition to Canada, are also available. Most of the foreign topographic maps owned by the Map and Geography Library are part of map sets published by foreign agencies, not by the USGS.

Map sets are also created to map other features or attributes besides topography. These attributes include census tracts, land use, flood zones and bathymetric features. Like topographic sets, these themed materials use index maps to guide the user to the correct sheet.

The Map and Geography Library is creating web access to the index maps of significant map sets through the web. The information available includes information about the map set, a 4 inch square sample image from the map set, and the index map with zoom and pan cabability. Thus far the following sets are available:

World and Oceans
Africa
Asia
Australia and South Pacific
Central America
Europe
North America (except Illinois)
South America/Latin America
Arctic
Extraterrestrial
Illinois
