Photocopying Materials

Self-Serve Copies

Some items may be taken out of the Map and Geography Library for photocopying. The closest self-serve photocopiers are located on the second floor near the Central Circulation Desk or in the Reading Room.  The borrower must complete a photocopy loan card and leave either a University ID or driver's license at the Map and Geography Library's circulation desk.

Higher Quality Copies

Higher quality copies, including full-size black-and-white copies, color copies up to 11 x 17 inches, overhead transparencies and digital files, can be obtained as well.  If the materials do not normally circulate or the patron is not allowed to borrow University of Illinois Library materials, the patron should fill out one of Library's photo reproduction forms.  This form will be sent along with the materials to the University's Graphic Services office as soon as possible, and the copies may be picked up there when they are ready or can be sent to the patron via UPS.   The photocopying generally takes 2 to 4 days.

For prices, call the Facilities and Services Printing Department at (217) 244-1455.

The Library's Digital Content Creation Department offers digitizing services of items.

Aerial Photograph Scanning Loans

Aerial photographs are non-circulating materials. But they may be borrowed on weekdays for quick office scanning by holders of current University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign ID cards or Urbana-Champaign area allied agency orange cards. Potential borrowers must call to make advance arrangements with the librarian or the senior library specialist before arriving at the Map and Geography Library to pick the photographs up. Blanket borrowing permission will not be granted and should not be assumed. Circulation paperwork will be completed including a complete inventory of all photographs being borrowed. Borrowers may not borrow more than a total of 50 photographs. Photographs will be due at 5:00pm on the day borrowed. Borrowed photographs should not leave the custody of the borrower; they should not be left with a third party for scanning or any other processing.

Charges will be assessed for lost or damaged photographs, and overdue penalties will be assessed for late photographs. Standard library charges will apply -- $125.00 per lost or damaged item requiring replacement; $2.00 per hour per item for photographs returned after 5:00pm. Fines will be levied at the first infraction. At the second infraction will be levied and a warning of impending suspension of scanning loan privileges will be issued. A third infraction will result in both fines and the suspension of scanning loans. Patrons may submit appeals to the Library Fines Appeals Board for the reduction of fines and/or suspensions through the Library Billing Office. (November 1, 2002)
