PLOS has always had a policy that supporting data must be openly available, but beginning this month, the revised PLOS Data Policy requires authors to provide a Data Availability Statement when submitting a manuscript. The Data Availability Statement should describe compliance with the PLOS Data Policy, and the statement will be published with the article, if accepted. The policy describes acceptable data-sharing methods, which include depositing data in an appropriate public repository and submitting data as supplementary files.
