III. Updates/Discussions
A. Safety and Security Advisory Group Proposal
The LSSC sent a recommendation to Paula Kaufman that was forwarded to Bart Clark, and LSSC expects to receive a response soon.
B. Staff Lounge
Received a brief response from Bart indicating that "A project manager from O&M has been assigned to the job and the basic plans for what is to be done have been passed on to him. Please remember that O&M has a backlog of over 300 projects and that, unlike us, they are experiencing layoffs this year, as well as next year."
C. Food & Drink Policy
Espresso Royale is in the processing of obtaining spill-proof cups, with a Library logo, to sell to customers. Food and drink remains a big problem in some libraries, especially during finals week.
D. By-Laws revision
The committee began to review the by-laws.
IV. New Business
A. Finals Week Security Guard Schedule
Library employees expressed concern about knowing security guard hours during finals week. It was suggested that unit heads be notified of security guard hours, and they should then communicate the hours to their staff. It was also suggested that more security guard hours be scheduled during the first half of finals week, when there are greater numbers of students using the libraries.
