A.  Admin. Council --

-- The December 26 half-day work schedule will be from 1:00 to 4:45.  Discussion ensued regarding who is responsible for coverage.

-- Serial Implementation Committee will be sending around another survey regarding staffing and equipment.

-- Oak Street Selection -- Bob Burger distributed a document estimating transfer figures.  Processing staff issues have yet to be finalized.  Issues regarding the power line and easements are ended and new plans have been approved by the Library.

-- It was announced that Beth Sandore was appointed AUL for Library Information Technology Planning and Policy.

-- The Library's two major priorities are converting to the Voyager system and selecting materials for the Oak Street Facility.

-- Response to Capital Campaign feasibility report preservation and library collections have most interest.

Library Staff Steering Committee Meeting Minutes
December 12, 2001

Present:  A. Conrad, L. Engels, R. Jahr, P. Lindell,  J. Somera

Guest:  B. Burger

The decision was made to discuss ongoing business, even though a quorum was not present.

I.  Minutes of the November 29, 2001, meeting were revised and approved.

II.  Reports

A.  Admin. Council -- Met on December 3

-- Staff Reclasses.  There were 47 requests for reclass, which have all received a preliminary review.  Two reclasses from LTA to LTS were eliminated because the incumbents didn't have the required four years in class as an LTA, and two were eliminated because they didn't meet the qualifications.  If all of the remaining positions were upgraded, it would amount to $117,000.  There is only $100,000 available in the fund, so the reclasses from LCII to LCIII will be audited first.  The remaining requests will be audited in order of seniority.

-- Library Gateway Design.  The proposed new gateway was presented for review.   The design is to be discussed in the Divisions.  Division Coordinators will then report back at the next AC meeting in January.

-- Binding Quotas.  Tom Teper would like to set binding quotas for libraries in order to equalize the monthly fluctuation of total binding (i.e., currently the amount doubles between May and June, right when the binding unit doesn't have student help).   Division Coordinators will check with their divisions and report back.

-- Extended hours prior to start of fall semester.  The English faculty wants extended hours before the start of the fall semester, just the weekend and the Monday and Tuesday evenings before classes start.  Again, comments from the Divisions will be sought.

B.  Faculty Meeting -- No meeting

C.  Divisional Meetings Items -- Nothing new

III.  Updates/Discussions

A.  CSE Retreat -- Revised draft presented by G. Witte.  LSSC will review it before our next meeting on January 9.

B.  Election Oversight Group -- The election is over.  Formal announcement of the election results will occur soon.  The Election Group briefly reviewed the election process.  The entire process is too cumbersome.  It needs to be revised and simplified for both nominations and voting.  The Group will present a more formal evaluation later, so that the new LSSC members can rework the election procedures.

C.  Brown Bag -- The brown bag luncheon about the Reaching Forward South Conference was a success.
