The Research and Publications Committee is pleased to announce the funding of an RPC grant to Qiang Jin for a project entitled: "Comparing and evaluating corporate names in the Library of Congress Name Authority File as viewed on Voyager and on official corporate body home web pages."
The faculty are invited to visit the RPC website for information about applying for RPC grants, and for a listing of other recent recipients.

News & Announcements from Units:A special thank you goes to all of the Library faculty and staff who helped with the Dedication of the 10-Millionth Volume held on October 10. Everything that was accomplished for the celebration was the result of a team effort with many participants. Because of you, we have received a lot of compliments about our hospitality. Beth Wohlgemuth would like to announce that Anna FitzSimmons will be filling the Illinois Natural History Survey librarian position vacated by JoAnn Jacoby last August. Anna is a recent graduate from the School of Library & Information Science and officially started Monday, October 6. As a recent graduate she comes with a fair amount of experience. She has worked at the Undergraduate and City Planning Libraries and the Acquisitions department. Also, she did a library practicum with Michael Norman.

ARL Announces the 2003-2004 Board of Directors
Sarah Thomas, University Librarian at Cornell University, began her one-year term as President of the Association of Research Libraries on October 16, 2003, during the ARL Fall Membership Meeting in Washington, D.C. She succeeds Fred M. Heath, Vice Provost and Director of General Libraries, University of Texas at Austin, who continues to serve on the ARL Executive Committee as Past President. At the same meeting, Ann Wolpert, Director of Libraries, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, was elected Vice President/President Elect.
Three new Board members were also elected by the membership to serve three-year terms. They include Camila Alire, Dean of Library Services, University of New Mexico; Marianne Gaunt, University Librarian, Rutgers University; and Betsy Wilson, Director of University Libraries, University of Washington.
Continuing members of the Board are Joseph Branin, Director of Libraries, Ohio State University; Frances Groen, Director of Libraries, McGill University; Rush Miller, University Librarian, University of Pittsburgh; Sherrie Schmidt, Dean of University Libraries, Arizona State University; Brian E.C. Schottlaender, University Librarian, University of California, San Diego; and Paul Willis, Dean of Libraries, University of South Carolina.
The Board is the governing body of the Association and represents the interest of ARL member libraries in directing the business of the Association, including establishing operating policies, budgets, and fiscal control; modifying the ARL mission and objectives; and representing ARL to the community.
Research Libraries and University Presses Issue Statement on Scholarly Communication
The Association of American University Presses (AAUP) and the Association of Research Libraries (ARL) have formulated a Joint Statement on Scholarly Communication. The Statement sets forth the complementary roles of press and library within higher education, and indicates a strengthened commitment to cooperation and joint action.

SPARC SPARC is in the process of updating their listserv and would like to make sure that everyone at their member institutions who would like to be included on SPARC mailings is indeed receiving their emails.
