Library workshop: Finding articles in LIS

Thursday, September 17, 7:15-9:00pm, GSLIS 52

Tuesday, September 22, 7:15-9:00pm, Main Library 314

Friday, September 25, 3:00-4:15, Main Library 314

Workshop leader:  Sue Searing, LIS Librarian

This workshop will introduce the three major LIS journal indexes - LISA, Library Lit, and LISTA.  We'll examine various features common to article index databases as we conduct sample searches.  In addition to basic searching, you'll learn how to use the database's internal thesaurus of subject headings, to limit retrieval to full text and/or peer-reviewed articles, to create citation lists, and to set up automatic alerts for new articles of interest.  We'll also look at special features that distinguish each database from the others.

This is a single workshop, offered three times.  Advance registration is not required.

Do you learn better by exploring on your own?  Or do you just need a quick refresher?  Instead of the workshop, you might prefer to consult this guide:  http://uiuc.libguides.com/LISBasicInfoSourcesArticles
