Google Books settlement ruling

On March 22, Judge Denny Chin of the US Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit denied final approval of the Amended Settlement Agreement that had been reached in The Authors Guild et al. v. Google class action lawsuit.  The ruling has caused speculation in many quarters about the next steps.  Newspaper stories provide the basic facts.  Watch for interested parties to announce positions and interpretations in the coming days.  The Library Copyright Alliance has already updated its "march madness" chart of possible outcomes.

The CIC announced that Google will continue to scan books from the University of Illinois and other Big Ten university libraries.  The HathiTrust, the shared digital repository that includes many Google-created ebooks, also issued a statement
