Test new article recommender

Sep 23, 2009

The University Library is currently evaluating bX Recommender Service (http://www.exlibrisgroup.com/category/bXOverview). The bX Recommender Service provides suggestions for additional articles and these recommendations are based on data Ex Libris has gathered from SFX usage logs from libraries and research institutions around the world. During the trial period, after users click the Discover button, they may notice bX suggestions under the heading: 'Users interested in this article also expressed an interest in the following'.

Here are some sample Discover results with article recommendations:

    http://tinyurl.com/yat7494

    http://tinyurl.com/yec73rx

    http://tinyurl.com/y9s74hu

The recommendations are based on how much data is available for a given article.  Not all article records include recommendations.

Acquired by Ex Libris from the Los Alamos National Laboratory, bX is based on years of research work led by researchers Johan Bollen and Herbert Van der Sompel. For more background information see An architecture for the aggregation and analysis of scholarly usage data (24 May 2006):
