The Illinois Newspaper Project (INP) is part of a larger national endeavor known as the United States Newspaper Program coordinated by the Library of Congress. It is funded by a grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities. The ultimate goal of the project is to find and catalog unique newspapers held by public institutions, private organizations, and private individuals within the state to be included in the microfilming stage of this project. The INP located at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign is responsible for inventorying and cataloging newspaper collections found in central and southern Illinois.
