CONTENTdm is used to manage and provide access to Web-accessible collections of resources, primarily images, digitized from a wide range of Library special collections, e.g., from the Rare Book and Manuscript Library, the Maps and Geography Library, the Literatures and Languages Library. A listing of publicly accessible collections maintained in CONTENTdm is available on the Web at http://imagesearchnew.library.illinois.edu/
CONTENTdm is normally available 24/7.
Maintaining on-campus public access to our local digital images collections is a high priority for Library IT. We make every effort to resolve problems with this service as quickly as possible during normal business hours, Monday-Friday, 8:30-5:00. At other times, you can normally expect a response within 24 hours.
Problems with remote (off-campus) access to the CONTENTdm are resolved as quickly as possible on the next business day.
Issues with individual collections hosted in CONTENTdm and with individual record problems, metadata errors, and functions supporting staff editing and updating of collections are dealt with during normal business hours by staff in CAM, DSD, and the individual Library unit(s) responsible for bibliographic control and management of the specific collection involved.
If the CONTENTdm public interface is down or not responding to search requests , please log a ticket with the IT Help Desk or call the Help Desk at 244-4688. Incoming tickets and calls are reviewed and prioritized as they arrive between 8:30-5:00, Monday through Friday. Tickets or calls coming in after hours are reviewed promptly on the next business day.
If it is outside normal business hours (8:30-5:00, Monday through Friday) and you believe there is a widespread outage, please call 244-4688 and leave a message with the Library IT Help Desk answering service (aka the AITS Service Desk). In an emergency situation the answering service will contact Library IT on-call support staff promptly.
If the CONTENTdm public search and browse interface is running but you cannot connect to specific collections or if you are not able to gain access to your collection records or metadata for editing and updating, email DSD to report the problem; these problems will be addressed the next business day.
The Library's CONTENTdm service is accessible to users worldwide for searching and browsing. Selected collections are only available to on-campus users (including those connecting after authentication through the campus VPN service or the Library's Proxy Server.
Library staff are authorized individually to be able to add and delete resources, edit and update metadata records, index collections, and generate reports. Access is normally authorized on a collection-by-collection basis.
Each collection also has its own project home page – see http://images.library.illinois.edu/ for links to collection / project home pages. Search tips are available via the ? Help link in the upper right corner of the pages.
To use CONTENTdm you must have a computer with an internet connection and a web browser. To use some staff functions, you must also have the CONTENTdm acquisition station client installed.
IT Infrastructure and Management and Support hosts the server on which CONTENTdm runs.
The Library's Content Access Management (CAM) unit and other individual Library units are responsible for adding, deleting, editing, and updating the resources and metadata maintained in CONTENTdm.
The primary service manager is Tim Cole.
