Bounced Email Message in Exchange/Outlook 2010

After your email account was moved to Exchange 2010, if you get bounced email messages and the following error message:

  • Microsoft Outlook Delivery has failed to these recipients or groups: Last Name, First Name
  • The e-mail address you entered couldn't be found. Please check the recipient's e-mail address and try to resend the message. If the problem continues, please contact your helpdesk.

This is due to a bad cached auto complete or bad email addresses entered in the contacts. Usually it only happens in Outlook 2010, you can send email in the Outlook Web APP without any problem.

To fix the problem in Outlook 2010:

  • Delete the auto complete from the TO field

    • Begin typing the name
    • When the list of choices appear
    • Press the down arrow key on your keyboard to highlight the suggestion
    • Press the delete key on your keyboard to remove the bad auto complete entry

  • Delete or re-create the contacts in your address book

    • If the email field is auto completing when editing the contact try the same steps above.

Then, type the email address that you know is valid in the TO field or contacts, resend the message.
