CITES Email Services

CITES Express Email Logon Page -- CITES creates an email account for each campus employee. The CITES Express Mail interface provides convenient access to your email from any computer with a web browser--regardless of where the computer is located.

• How to Configure and use LDAP --  LDAP is the acronym for Lightweight Directory Access Protocol, an email tool provided by CITES. LDAP allows you to search for campus directory information by people's name or NetID. CITES Express Email can be configured to use the LDAP.

Library Email Services

Mozilla Thunderbird -- Library IT supports Thunderbird as an optional additional desktop email client.  Thunderbird is installed on all standard Library staff workstations.

• Configure Thunderbird on your staff PC.
• Set up LDAP in Thunderbird --  Thunderbird can also be configured to use the LDAP so you can search the campus directory through the Thunderbird.
• Email bug -- Accessing your CITES Express Email account through a desktop email client (such as Thunderbird) and the Express Email web interface at the same time can cause some of your messages to be deleted in rare cases. This is a known problem and has happened to Library staff.
• Save email to the H drive -- Configuring Thunderbird local folders to use H: drive allows you to reduce your quota on CITES Express and keep your messages in a backed up location.

Library WebMail (Squirrel Mail) -- Library IT can set up shared email accounts for departments, committees, and other Library groups that need a common account with all mail going to all members of the group.

This service is also sometimes called "Cliff mail", "Departmental Email Accounts" or "generic email accounts".

Email Aliases -- An email alias is an alternate email address that forwards all the email it receives to your regular email account. An email alias can also be set up to redirect email to multiple regular email addresses. Library IT creates email aliases by request.
