Indexes of the Virginia Military District Records
For some time now, researchers have had access to Virginia Military District land records through the indexes compiled by Jillson (on Kentucky), Brumbaugh (on Ohio), and, more recently, Bockstruck (on various state grants). These indexes remain the first ones you should consult for information on individuals in this district, along with the online databases found at the Library of Virginia and the Kentucky Secretary of State’s Office.

Jillson, Willard Rouse, Old Kentucky Entries and Deeds, Filson Club Publication No. 34 (Louisville, KY: Standard Printing Co., 1926).
The index most directly related to the Anderson Papers is that of Clifford Neal Smith’s Federal Land Series:

These are transcriptions of bound volume 6 (Leather bound volume 10 ¼ x 15. Backbone stamped "record book." List of persons making entries in Virginia Military District arranged numerically. Entries 102-15763). However, Smith noted that he also used Vol. #9 (Leather bound notebook 4 ½ x 7 ½. Stamped "A. Latham." Contents names of persons, 1-3115, with number of acres granted, to whom transferred, etc.) and Vol. #10 (Leather bound notebook 4 ½ x 7 ½. Stamped "A. Latham" but falls in administration of Col. R.
