Duncan Family. Correspondence, 1849-82 | Illinois History and Lincoln Collections

This collection contains transcripts of correspondence between Elizabeth Caldwell Duncan (1808-76), the wife of Joseph Duncan, Governor of Illinois, 1834-38, and other members of the Duncan family. Topics include personal news, the status of slaves, the abolition problem, the Civil War, and the funerals of President and Mrs. Lincoln.

Elizabeth Duncan Putnam, granddaughter of the governor, donated these transcripts to the Library in 1928.
