Stevens, John J. Reminiscences of Abraham Lincoln and early Logan County, Ill., 1926 | Illinois History and Lincoln Collections
Scope and Contents: In this photocopy of a five-page typed letter, John J. Stevens of St. Louis, Mo., recalls coming to Middletown, Logan County, Ill., in 1847, and tells of Abraham Lincoln's 1853 christening of the town of Lincoln in that county. Stevens (b. 1840) wrote to Judge Lawrence B. Stringer, historian of Logan County. Stevens' great-grandson, Rolland E. Stevens (b. 1915), of Urbana, Ill., gave the photocopied letter, and an outline of the family tree, to the Illinois Historical Survey about 1970.
