Scope and Contents:
After serving in the 24th Wis. Vol. Inf. during the Civil War, Arthur MacArthur (1845-1912), father of Gen. Douglas MacArthur, was commissioned in the regular U. S. Army. MacArthur was a brigade and division commander in the Philippines, where he eventually served as military governor in 1901-2, before retiring with the rank of brigadier general in 1907. This collection contains MacArthur's quarterly return of ordnance and ordnance stores for the 24th Wis., Mar. 31, 1865, and a Mar. 28, 1899, clipping from the Chicago Record describing his career in the Philippines.
