Scope and Contents:
Ezra Dadysman, a justice of the peace of Frederick County, Maryland, inscribed the two affidavits in this collection. In the first, dated Dec. 14, 1839, David Richardson attests that Sarah Ann Praut, a "Negro woman," is "free born and has always passed as such." In the second, dated Feb. 25, 1840, Thomas Sappington attests that Andrew Crane, a "negro man," was manumitted by Francis B. Sappington on Jan. 23, 1832.
