Scope and Contents: Harry Pratt received his Ph. D. in history from the University of Illinois in 1930. In 1950, Pratt became Illinois State Historian, serving until his death in 1956. This collection contains Pratt's notes on Franklin William Scott's Newspapers and Periodicals of Illinois, 1814-1879 (1920), specifically information missing from the volume. These notecards are arranged in alphabetical order by city. On each card Pratt indicated the page in Scott's book on which the newspaper is cited and the additional information he had compiled. The collection also contains worksheets that list publishers, dates of publication, locations of copies and the degree of completeness of holdings for some of the newspapers Pratt annotated.
