Coles, Gov. Edward (1786-1868).  Letters And Papers, 1820-58 | Illinois History and Lincoln Collections

This collection contains photostats and transcripts collected and used by Clarence Walworth Alvord in editing Governor Edward Coles, Collections of the Illinois State Historical Library, volume 15 (1920). The materials pertain to charges brought against Coles for his failure to give bond at the time of the manumission of slaves that he brought from Virginia.

The collection includes copies of records of Madison County and of manuscripts in the Chicago Historical Society.
